IO Interactive’s Tore Blystad has said that the Hitman: Absolution team “won’t be dictated to by the fans”, despite some of the backlash the game has received within the community.
“There’s always people in the office checking up (on comments from fans), especially on the Hitman forums,” said Blystad talking to VG247. “We want to probably know what they’re thinking, and we want to make a game that people like, not just a game we like and no-one else cares about.
“We’ll listen to them, but we won’t be dictated to by the fans because we also have so many segments of fans that we could listen to one group say, ‘the game has to be more difficult than any other Hitman.’ Well, that’s going to be hard for us to pull off if you make a game of this magnitude.”
Some members of the Hitman community have accused Absolution of being “dumbed down”, criticising the game’s more linear approach and questionable new mechanics.
The most controversial of them all is arguably the new Instinct mode, which lets players see enemies through walls. Agent 47′s voice actor David Batesom and the game’s trademark map screen have both reportedly been dropped as well, understandably upsetting a few fans.
But whatever your thoughts are on Hitman: Absolution at the moment, Blystad is determined to make it a worthy successor to 2006′s awesome Blood Money.
“It has to be great,” he continued. “There’s no option. Everybody in the team and in the studio is focussed on this, it’s the most important thing for us.”
Hitman: Absolution launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC next year.
