IO Interactive is due to officially lift the lid on its next game "fairly soon", according to the developer’s Twitter feed, prompting reports that a Hitman 5 reveal is imminent.
"Finally able to tweet about the new game we’re developing here at IO in Copenhagen," IO developer Tore Blystad tweeted this morning.
Then later this afternoon, IO tweeted that their next game "will be like Viagra for your gaming libido", adding that "It’ll be cool. And we’ll officially announce it fairly soon."
IO’s new game could be anything of course, but a later tweet from Blystad gave the biggest hint yet that the game could be the often-rumoured Hitman 5.
"Having big level design discussions about a centerpiece level of the game today," he said. "Hot topic: Freedom of choice vs. clear direction.."
Sounds like Hitman to us.
Hitman 5 has been rumoured to be in development since 2007, with Eidos’ Life President Ian Livingstone revealing in 2009 that the game was "being worked on".
It was reported last week that the first screenshot of Hitman 5 may have been uncovered by fans on a fan forum. The image showed a man wearing black gloves and a suit screwing a silencer onto a pistol.
Since the last Hitman title, 2006′s Hitman: Blood Money, IO has gone on to develop Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days and Mini Ninjas, withnone of which reaching the same levels of critical and commercial success as Hitman.
