Sony has officially announced God of War: Ascension, the next game in the hit ultra-violent hack and slash God of War series due for release exclusively on PlayStation 3.
Ascension appears to be the new name for the long-rumoured God of War 4, and though official details are still tight, the teaser trailer appears to confirm the return of series anti-hero Kratos.
The game is also rumoured to be a prequel set before Kratos became the Ghost of Sparta.
A release date is still to be confirmed.
Sony’s announcement confirms a leak from retailer Amazon, who accidentally revealed the game in a product listing earlier today.
Amazon’s product description said that players would ”join Kratos as he seeks freedom, redemption, and the clarity to avenge his family in the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far.”
Sony says more official details on Ascension will be revealed on Monday, 30th April.
