EA Sports has announced that the FIFA franchise has sold over 100 million units across its eighteen-year lifetime, becoming the "best-selling sports videogame franchise in the world".
FIFA 11 has sold 20% more units than last year’s version FIFA 10, according to EA, shifting a ‘record-breaking’ 2.6m copies in its first five days of launch, and with total sales fast approaching the 8 million mark.
Quite a feat considering the game’s only been on sale for a month.
FIFA 11 Ultimate Team, a free update challenging people to create the best squad by collecting and trading cards, is available to download now on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
"Few videogame franchises ever reach the 100 million units mark and we have millions of fans around the world to thank for helping us to this milestone," said Matt Bilbey, EA Sports’ vice president of football.
"It is a wonderful tribute to all of these fans playing FIFA 11 that our most popular and played DLC is available today for the first time ever for free."
Go and download it, but be warned – it’s bloody addictive.
FIFA 11 is out now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii, PSP and DS. We reckon it’s probably the best football game ever made.
