DICE’s Patrick Bach has admitted that he’s "desperate to move on into the next generation," adding to the list of developers eager to move onto the next console generation.
"I don’t know what the big corporations are thinking but definitely we are desperate to move on into the next generation," said Battlefield 3′s executive producer Bach in an interview with CVG.
"I think Battlefield 3 will look like a next-generation game and all the technology we’re building, the whole Frostbite 2 system – the animations, audio, everything – is trying to aim for a couple of years in the future, rather than looking at what we have today."
But whenever the next generation comes along, DICE say they’re ready.
"We are already there. If Microsoft or Sony were to release a new console tomorrow, the engine would scale onto that platform, because we have been looking at not only the PC technology today but also speculating what will happen tomorrow when it comes to these things. So everything from our streaming technologies to rendering technologies is scalable onto future platforms."
So far, only the PC version of Battlefield 3 has been shown to press, leading to speculation that it’ll look vastly superior to the console versions.
In an interview with GamerZines, however, Bach dismissed that speculation, saying that he’s "not worried about the experience from playing on a console would be lesser than on a PC. It’ll still be a magnificent Battlefield game that would look stunning and sound stunning".
A job listing for a Graphics Hardware Architect spotted last month suggested that Microsoft were already working on their successor to the Xbox 360. Sony, however, have always maintained that they have a "10 year plan" for PlayStation 3, suggesting that we may not see Sony’s next home console hardware until 2016.
Battlefield 3 launches on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in November.
