A new model of the PS3 Slim currently shipping to Japanese retailers sports cosmetic differences, cuts power consumption and weighs 400g less than existing Slim models, according to a report on Andriasang.
The report states that the new CECH-3000B model PlayStation 3 Slim cuts power consumption to 200W, down from 230W of the existing Slim models, and weighs just 2.6kg, compared to the 3kg of existing Slims.
It also carries a 320GB hard drive.
The unit has also seen some “external changes to the power and eject buttons”, according to the report, “along with the removal of LED lamps”.
It hasn’t been made clear which LEDs have been removed, however – fingers crossed it’s the hard drive access light and not the power LED, right?
Early indications on video games forum NeoGAF suggest that the unit may be outfitted with a new 32nm Cell chip, and that a price cut may be announced by Sony during Gamescom in August.
Despite appearing in an FCC filing in April, the CECH-3000B is yet to be officially announced by Sony.
