Battlefield 4. It’s bound to happen at some point, right? But DICE’s Patrick Liu has become the first man at the studio to officially make mention of it, saying that the team will “see what happens in the future with any potential Battlefield 4″.
“We’ll see what happens,” said Liu speaking to Metro about the future of the franchise. “I would say that with Battlefield 3 the launch is just the beginning.
“Then we start updating the game, tweaking it, balancing it, releasing new content – both free content and paid content – and we’ll see what happens in the future with any potential Battlefield 4.”
But don’t expect it soon. As Executive Producer Patrick Bach has suggested previously, we won’t be seeing a follow up to Battlefield 3 next year.
“We certainly don’t have any plans for annualising the franchise,” continued Liu. “We’re just one team doing this, we’re not going to let another studio work on the franchise. We’re not cranking out games like crazy ourselves, so we’ll see. I think one game at a time and we’ll see what happens.”
According to Liu, though, the team doesn’t have any current plans to bring back Bad Company, even though the sub-series is still “alive and kicking somewhere”.
“We haven’t killed the Bad Company franchise so to speak. It’s still alive and kicking somewhere, we like the characters ourselves but we don’t have any plans right now? we’ll see what happens next… we’ll see.
“Again though we’re only so big of a studio, we have a number of projects going on but we can only make like one big title at a time.”
Battlefield 3 launches in the UK on October 28th on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
