There’s also a live-action gameplay trailer as well, but you don’t have to watch that.
If there was any proof that GRID 2 is aimed squarely at the casual racing fan, then the latest promotional trailer is surely it. The footage sees renowned motorsport journalist Chris Harris (Autocar, Evo, Pistonheads) using Codemasters’ sequel to learn more about Brands Hatch, but for some reason it just rubs us the wrong way.
Seeing two McLaren MP4-12Cs going head-to-head at Brands Hatch should be something we can get behind, but the camp faux-Hollywood soundtrack and the baffling number of silly rear-end slides going on makes the footage fall short.
Thankfully Codemasters has released a bunch of new screenshots for GRID 2 and unsurprisingly they look absolutely fantastic.
Sometimes we just wish publishers would stop doing fancy things and just give gamers what they want – namely raw gameplay footage. We especially could do without silly footage that trys a little too hard to emulate Top Gear.
If you want to really prove your motorsport mettle Codemasters, why not sponsor a British Touring Car driver and have him talk about his experiences with GRID 2? That would sell us on the real-world impact of using the ‘simcade’ release to help actual competition and help a driver stay on the grid for at least a few races. That would win a lot of doubters over and help the UK motorsport industry which is crying out for sponsorship and funding help.
GRID 2 will be released during the summer months on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
