Hideo Kojima has confirmed that the recently teased projects ‘The Phantom Pain’ and ‘Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes’ are actually both part of a new game in the beloved Metal Gear Solid series.
The full title of the next installment is ‘Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’ and once again stars Solid Snake, looking older and even worse for wear than he did in 4. This sequel is the first title to utilise the stunning FOX engine which makes characters look and animate more realistically than any other engine currently used for gaming purposes. According to series creator Hideo Kojima, Ground Zeroes will act as a prologue set seven years before events in ‘The Phantom Pain’, but both will constitute as part of Metal Gear Solid 5′s single-player campaign. Yes we know it’s confusing, but nobody does crazy like Kojima.

Unfortunately no release date was mentioned regarding Metal Gear Solid 5, but the title will appear on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We’d suspect the next console from Microsoft and Sony’s PlayStation 4 will get a look-in as well, but don’t quote us on that.
