BEST SPORTS: FIFA 12
FIFA continued to go from strength to strength with this year’s game, which debuted the awesome FIFA Football Club and integrated the hellishly addictive Ultimate Team add-on directly on-disc. Tactical Defending fell foul of some critics (us included), but elsewhere on the pitch EA’s understanding of the sport continues to be unrivalled. A sports game like no other.
RUNNERS-UP: F1 2011, PES 2012
BEST DRIVING GAME: DIRT 3
A game so good that the publisher closed its action studio to focus purely on a racing-driven future. DiRT 3 has everything: style, substance, an exciting career and a surprisingly clever online component. It may not reference him in name, but DiRT 3′s a fitting tribute to the late great Colin McRae.
RUNNERS-UP: DRIVER: SAN FRANCISCO, MOTORSTORM APOCALYPSE
BEST PLATFORM GAME: RAYMAN ORIGINS
Talk about a comeback! Origins gave us everything we loved about the original Rayman and more, delivering superbly crafted levels, watertight controls and a kaleidoscope of funky colour. A four-player co-op mode better than New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the icing on the cake.
