BIGGEST SURPRISES
RESISTANCE 3
With two mediocre outings, we’ve often thought of Insomniac’s shooter series as being a tad overrated. But following this chilling third act, consider us converted.
DRIVER: SAN FRANCISCO
It may be more Saturday morning cartoon than the badass Driver we remember from the early 00s, but Ubi Reflections did a great job of bringing the series back on track with San Francisco.
SONIC GENERATIONS
We were prepared for the worst, but SEGA didn’t disappoint. The strongest Sonic game in over a decade, Generations finally gave Sonic fans exactly what they wanted.
SAINTS ROW: THE THIRD
P3Zine called Volition’s openworlder the PS3′s Vice City in their review last issue. Miss it. Miss out.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS
BATTLEFIELD 3 (SINGLE-PLAYER)
BF3′s single-player was one of the dullest campaigns we’ve played in a long time. Thankfully, the game’s multiplayer saved it from the realms of the bargain bin.
ASSASSIN’S CREED REVELATIONS
Dull, derivative and uninspired, Revelations’ felt like it was built by a group of developers as bored of making it as we were of playing it. A significant overhaul is already overdue.
BRINK
Promising an extensive objective-based multiplayer interwoven into the core campaign, in the end Brink was nothing more than a technically flawed mid-year stopgap.
NEED FOR SPEED: THE RUN
Outdoing Criterion’s awesome Hot Pursuit was always going to be a big ask for Black Box, but they’ve missed it by a mile. Slack handling and drab racing make The Run a non-starter.
