Sony use Naughty Dog to stoke anticipation for Kratos’ return. The idea of packing demos with full retail releases has a long and storied history.
Most recently Dragon Dogma’s disc featured a taster of Resident Evil 6, a few years back Crackdown was sold primarily on the promise of gaining access to the Halo 3 multiplayer beta and even further back Zone of Enders was propped up by the inclusion of a Metal Gear Solid 2 taster.
This trend usually comes into play when a publisher is unsure on the quality of their forthcoming release, and we suspect that’s also the case with Sony who have announced that they will grant early access to The Last of Us demo with every purchase of God of War: Ascension in Europe.
The Last of Us demo won’t be packed on the disc though, instead players will be able to access the taster as soon as it comes available on the PlayStation Network via God of War: Ascension’s main menu. The third-person action game set to release on Wednesday, March 13th in Europe and Friday, March 15th in the UK.
Sony hasn’t confirmed whether The Last of Us demo will be available to all gamers at some point, but with Naughty Dog’s survival experience set to release on May 7th there won’t be too long to wait.
