Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword review for the PC
Having played Civ IV quite intensively, we were looking forward to Beyond the Sword for some new mod content and extra doodas. And we were justly rewarded. You can build the internet, and Abe Lincoln can rule all of Babylonia. Random events have been introduced to keep you on your toes. The new features build on and energise the core game, adding to its "just one more turn" addictiveness. There are 10 new civilizations and 16 new leaders, plus the ability to combine any leader and country. Automatically pick Bismarck for combat games? Why not try seasoned campaigner Charlemagne or despotwith- a-heart Boudica instead?

Combining an aggressive or expansive leader with another country's unique unit can be a powerful strategy. But beware: the AIs are also much more sophisticated – you may even need to step down a level for the first few games to save face.
