Medieval II Total War Kingdoms review for the PC

Fans of strategy giant Medieval II - and they are legion - have been waiting breathlessly for the expansion Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. So has it been worth the wait? With four new campaigns and thirteen new factions, it's hard to believe it's 'just' an expansion pack - it's almost as big in itself as a stand alone game in its own right. The question is, will die-hard Medieval II fans find enough here to keep them occupied? We think they will, and we tell you why in this issue of PCGZine. Medieval II Total War Kingdoms review for the PC
On PC, there are expansion packs, and then there are expansion packs. On one end of the scale, you've got rubbish like the H&M Accessories tosh for the Sims, cluttering up the shelves by adding absolutely nothing of value, but at the other, decent end of the scale, you have packages like Shivering Isles, providing hours of new gameplay, and lots of original things to do. Medieval 2: Total War Kingdoms sits firmly at that end of the scale.

With four entirely new campaigns to play through, and a whopping 13 new factions, the Kingdoms expansion pack could easily have stood up on its own as a stand-alone, full price release. However, it's not just quantity over quality either, as the new additions make some pretty significant changes to the battles.

Fans of the Total War series will immediately be familiar with what they're up against here, as the core of the campaign remains pretty much the same. Faced with a territorial map of wherever you're waging war, it's up to you to manage your cities and armies, defend your provinces against attack, and push into enemy territory whenever your opponent's looking a tad weak.
