Defcon review - PC
Straight from the movie Wargames, Defcon is simple yet deadly – you have limited time to save the world from total annihilation. Don’t let the simplicity of the premise and the look of the Defcon graphics deceive you: it’s much harder and more involving than it looks and sounds. You can play alone as a single player, but as our Defcon review suggests, there’s a wealth of extra gameplay and depth if you go online and get involved in the Defcon community. Defcon review for PC
This little homage to the famous
80s movie Wargames, was
released last year on Valve’s
Steam download service. Thanks to its
success there, though, it’s been picked
up by Pinnacle for a retail release and is
about to hit store shelves in an
attractive box. If you haven’t had the
pleasure of playing it yet, now’s as
good a time as any to get involved.
The premise is deceptively simple –
as is the look of the game. A vector
graphic world is illuminated only by the
outlines of a map, with cities across the
five continents picked out as square
blobs. As the game begins, so does a
countdown timer – which ticks away
the seconds until the next level of
global alert is reached. This is a strictly
prescribed limit – you can’t slow it
down or stop the inevitable approach
of all out nuclear war.
