As an RTS from the makers of IL-2
Sturmovik, Theatre of War is as
niche a game as you’re likely to
find. Taking the same approach to the
RTS genre as they took to the flight sim,
the team at 1C Company have tasked
themselves with producing the most
accurate WW2 RTS ever seen. Only
problem is, their strategy (pun
intended) hasn’t worked quite as well
as we’d have hoped.
If you’re a fan of statistics and
number crunching, Theatre of War is
the RTS of your dreams. Every soldier,
tank, gun emplacement and vehicle
has numerous statistics and properties
that affect their every move, giving
Theatre of War a level of historical
accuracy that other games can only
dream about. With five individual
campaigns to play through, and a
whopping 40 missions in total, each of
which is based around a historical
battle, from Operation Overlord to the
crushing German defeat at Kursk,
there’s more than enough to keep your
average armchair general happy.
