But there is more to Great Battles of Rome - you'll also find a wealth of footage from the History Channel which explains the historical background behind the game. Great Battles of Rome
As if movie tie-ins weren’t bad
enough, over the past few years
we’ve seen a slew of tv shows
vying for a stake in gaming’s
prosperous tie-in territory. The
Sopranos, 24, even Desperate
Housewives have joined a cash-in
culture that rarely creates a game
worth removing from the shrinkwrap.
Great Battles of Rome follows the
spin-off tradition of being a very basic
genre title. In this case a very
uncomplex RTS. Position your army on
the battlefield, charge, leave victorious,
upgrade or buy new units, and it’s back
to the battlefield. Hardcore strategy
fans will find little to keep themselves
busy, but in all fairness it seems as
though Slitherine’s target audience
here is largely History Channel viewers
who aren’t necessarily accustomed to a
great deal of gaming.
