And while this first person survival horror isn’t quite perfect, there’s enough to like about it that we’re already looking forward to the rest of the trilogy. The gaming physics, for example, are rather more clever than the norm for an adventure game, with mouse movements being directly translated into in-game object movement in accordance with Newtonian physics. You’ll crouch in a terrified puddle of humanity repeatedly swinging your hammer back and forth until you smash the face of a killer dog. You’ll enjoy the fact that the way in which you pick up a slab of wood in the game has exactly the same effect as it would in real life – hold it in the middle and it will sway and wobble ponderously but pick it up near the end and you have a fabulous weapon. We’ve seen elements of this before, in Oblivion, for instance. But there’s never been anything quite so challenging – there’s no click to swing option for the easily bored.
