The Club Preview - PC

SEGA's shooter The Club won't hit the shelves until Christmas, but it's shaping up nicely. Developers Bizarre Creations are known for the Project Gotham series, and this influence is very apparent in The Club, in which success will depend on speed of action as well as shooting skill. So how will a shooter of this kind stand up on the PC compared to the console shooters? What sort of online gaming capabilities will The Club have? We've got all the latest news and our views - and better still, we've had a chance to play the game so can tell you what The Club is really like. Read our full The Club preview now! The Club Preview - PC

Shooters have gone soft. These days your average blast seems to be all about homoerotically muscular men with big guns ducking behind cover or working as a team to outfox their foes. Pansies! It’s time for the real hard cases to battle back, as Bizarre Creations takes a pitstop from developing Project Gotham Racing 4 to deliver a balls-out shooter in which you’re always on the front foot. Not that Bizarre has much recent pedigree in terms of shooters. But it’s turning its expertise in racing games that dates back to an earlier collaboration with SEGA on Metropolis Street Racer, to its advantage with workingly titled The Club. Fighters chose their own outfits, or get their mums to dress them.

For starters, the game features a combo system that will exponentially grow your score when you’re on a roll – just like the kudos points mechanism that makes PGR such a compelling racer. You’ll earn multipliers for pulling off a string of kills within a few seconds, upping your score with headshots, for instance. The better your combo, the quicker your multiplier will fade, so it’s only the most kill-hungry players that will reap the richest rewards.
