S.T.A.L.K.E.R. review

It's been a long and fraught road bringing STALKER to the PC. Beset by delays, it nearly never saw the light of day, despite being hotly anticipated. So how does it shape up now it's here with us? Does it live up to its own promises and bring us the new gaming experience we've been hoping for? Put simply, is it any good? Read what we think in this issue. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. review
Stalker (please, don’t dignify it with the futile f.u.l.l.s.to.p.s.) is the boy who cried wolf. It talked a frankly ridiculous blue streak, making all the promises that gamers wanted to hear but just couldn’t take seriously. Delay after delay eventually collapsed into a silence that could only mean a fatal savaging by enraged lupine publishers.

Bloodied but proud, now it’s back. Most of Stalker’s tall tales aren’t, unsurprisingly, true, but that wolf didn’t kill it. Rather, Stalker beat the hell out of the damned beast, and has emerged a game to be in awe of for entirely different reasons. Grim survival is etched into every inch of Stalker, giving it a personality quite unlike anything else, and making it the most compelling first-person shooter since Half-Life 2.
