The storyline is set to pick off directly from cues in the first game, which will be played in a variety of interesting new levels that are now even bigger and more detailed due to tweaks to the existing COD 4 engine. The level on show at this year's E3 was an outright masterclass. Perilous mountain ascents complete with climbing axes and slow-motion NPCs flailing for your grip, rubbed shoulders with picking out blizzard-blinded sentries on a heartbeat sensor and blasting them from close range – or waiting for your sniping companion to do the business. A chaotic battle and a compendium of exploding MIGS on an enemy runway suddenly blurred into a headlong Die Hard 2 style chase through snowy forests on the back of a Skidoo.
