The storyline is set to pick off directly from cues in the first game, which will be played in a variety of interesting new levels that are now even bigger and more detailed due to tweaks to the existing COD 4 engine. Modern Warfare 2 preview for the PC Sure, it helps if the guns are big and the explosions are pretty, but what Infinity Ward have always specialised in is the delicate art of pacing a level; stuffing it with enough surprise and suspense to ensure that your attention levels never once fall below a level marked ‘utter joy'. The level on show at this year's E3 was an outright masterclass. Perilous mountain ascents complete with climbing axes and slow-motion NPCs flailing for your grip, rubbed shoulders with picking out blizzard-blinded sentries on a heartbeat sensor and blasting them from close range – or waiting for your sniping companion to do the business. A chaotic battle and a compendium of exploding MIGS on an enemy runway suddenly blurred into a headlong Die Hard 2 style chase through snowy forests on the back of a Skidoo.
