Bionic Commando preview PCSpiderman meets Gears of War? Maybe, in forthcoming release Bionic Commando. In this somewhat belated sequel to the 1988 Nintendo game, the action will take place as much in the vertical as the horizontal plane, as your bionic-armed soldier leaps, swings and climbs his way through a ruined cityscape and takes on armies of terrorist enemies. The game's not ready yet by a long shot, but we've had a chance to go hands-on with Bionic Commando this month - find out all the latest news and see shots of the game in our massive preview! ![]() Bionic Commando preview for the PC It sounds like Gears of War meets Spider-man, and in that would seem to be a very good thing. The sequel to the 1988 Nintendo classic, but set only ten tears later in the plot, Nathan ‘Rad' Spencer and his bionic arm swing back into action around a world where the vertical action is every bit as manic as the horizontal. Just like Marcus Fenix in Gears of War, Nathan Spencer is a war hero subsequently turned upon and imprisoned by the government he served, but then brought back into action when they realise he's needed to counter a new threat. It's not aliens, however, but terrorists, who detonate a terrible experimental bomb in Ascension City before deploying a massive force with nefarious goals. So the plot's not the most imaginative, or innovative, but it's solid enough to form a good basis for the extreme action allowed by Spencer's bionic arm. Spencer is known as ‘Rad' for ‘Research and Development', because a grenade took his arm off during active duty and he became the first test subject for the army's military intelligence bionics division. The bionic arm allows him to swing between 50- storey skyscrapers, hook onto distant anchors, pull environments apart, zip up on girders, throw huge objects, pound enemies and whip them into the air. Can he hang upside-down while kissing too? We can only hope so. Click here to read the rest of our Bionic Commando preview for the PC now! |
