Red Faction: Guerilla preview PCThe Red Faction series will be back in 2009 with Red Faction: Guerilla, a full six years after its predecessor Red Faction II. Once again, you'll find yourself on the surface of Mars, following the struggle of the Mars freedom fighters. It promises a vast, free-roaming world, multiplayer functions and a change from Red Faction's traditional first-person to a third-person view. We've gone hands-on with an advance preview of the game this month, so we've had a first-hand look at Red Faction: Guerilla and we bring you all the latest news and snippets in this issue of PCGZine. ![]() Red Faction: Guerilla preview for the PC It seems that these days every new action game needs to be openworld to have credibility and the next Red Faction will be no exception. Using Mars as its big red sandbox, attempting to create a free-to-roam world where the other game mechanic is a fully destructible environment will be no mean feat for Volition. But that is the aim here and Volition President Mike Kulas assures us that, "Red Faction: Guerrilla expands the signature destruction elements of the series and pushes the boundaries of next-gen gaming on a massive, terraformed Mars where gamers can literally tear down the enemy EDF presence brick by brick". Set half a century after the last Red Faction game, Guerilla again follows the struggle of the Mars underground socialist movement as they strive to throw off the shackles of the authoritarian Earth Defense Force regime, whose oppression of Mars' mine workers seems to have continued unabated. The freedom fighters of the Red Faction won't just sit on top of government buildings waving banners and phoning Sky news, they'll be battling their way from desolate mining outpost Parker all the way across the vast Mars landscape towards the EDF heartland and capital city of Eos. But the terra-formed Martian landscape will be crawling with EDF forces and there will be plenty of side-missions along the way to aid browbeaten settlers and to capture and improvise assault vehicles, explosives and weapons from old mining stock. But it is an open world this time, so you'll be choosing the path to the capital yourself. Click here to read the rest of our Red Faction: Guerilla preview for the PC now! |
