Unreal Tournament 3 review PC

Unreal Tournament 3 review for the PC

Fans of Unreal Tournament are, quite simply, going to love this third instalment of the multiplayer shooter. Not really deviating from the basic structure and gameplay of its hugely successful predecessors, UT3 evolves beautifully, with better graphics and more maps, as well as some great new developments and unrivalled online modes. We've been looking forward to Unreal Tournament 3 for a good long while, and it's fair to say it's lived up to expectations. Find out why we've given it our PCGZine Gold Award in our full review now!

Unreal Tournament 3 review for the PC
We're going to open this review with a simple statement: if you've liked an Unreal Tournament before, you're going to love this one. A distinctly evolutionary, rather than revolutionary progression of the series, UT3 is pretty much an identikit version of the previous games, just with much prettier graphics, a lot more maps, and a tad more lag. But we'll get to that later.

The latest instalment in Epic's blockbuster fragging franchise has seen something of a refinement for version number three, and as such, a number of modes have been trimmed off, leaving the game with just six core game types; Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, CTF, Vehicle CTF (does exactly what it says on the tin), Duel and Warfare.

Warfare is the sole new addition to the Unreal Tournament suite, and even then it's a recycled version of two old classics, Onslaught and Assault. Taking place across a good variety of maps, each team is in control of a core, which is protected by a shield. By capturing a number of nodes across the map, you have to build an unbroken chain to the enemy's core, which will bring down their shield, letting you blow their core to smithereens.
