Yes, we've had a whole day to play, and we're happy to report that it's looking like it more than lives up to the standards of its predecessors in the UT series. Fast, furious and exciting, this death-match shooter is looking like a PC gaming dream. It's out later this month, but in the meantime read our hands-on preview to find out everything you need to know about Unreal Tournament 3! Unreal Tournament 3 preview for the PC
You're running down a narrow
corridor in a metallic,
claustrophobic space-station.
Surrounded by incredibly detailed
tributes to the people who built it –
gigantic, hulking statues of men, posed
as gods - you hear the sound of
gunfire in the next room. Edging closer,
and closer, and closer towards the
corner... suddenly...
Your head gets blown clean from
your shoulders at the barrel of a flak
cannon, as someone taunts you for
being such an "f**king n00b".
This, is Unreal Tournament 3, the
evolution of the PCs most popular
deathmatch shooter, and we were
lucky enough to have a whole day going hands-on with a near-finished
version of the game.
Melted eyeballs
Of course, if there's one thing UT has
always been famous for, it's the eyeball
meltingly fast speed, and this is also
true for the third instalment. Running at
at least 60 FPS throughout the duration
of our play, it was almost hard to keep
up with what was happening in UT, as
the action is that fast. Your players feel
like they're gliding rather than running;
you can pivot on the spot and
headshot an enemy that's just
appeared behind you; and by simply
double-tapping one of the keys, you
can dodge out of the way of an enemy
rocket.
