The Witcher review PC

The Witcher review for the PC

The Witcher is an RPG for grown-ups - alongside the usual RPG fantasy fare of quests, magic and legendary characters is a very adult mix of sex, drugs, booze and more. All that's missing is the rock and roll... A humorous take on the genre, The Witcher should appeal to those who aren't normally fantasy fans, as well as die-hard RPG-ers, and it's certainly a different take on the standard RPG. We think the Witcher's worth a play - find out more about the plot, gameplay and all that adult content in our review.

The Witcher review for the PC
When you think about traditional roleplaying games, you probably legislate for portentous voice-overs, po-faced storylines, interminable quests, waistlength beards, trusty blades, magic potions and heaving breasts. And while the Polish-developed The Witcher ticks every one of those boxes, it also throws in a dash of racism, terrorism, rape, suicide, drugs, booze and even unfettered rutting. It's perhaps too simplistic to describe it as an allegory for modern woes, but this is certainly an adult-oriented adventure that explores a number of controversial themes. And you thought it was just about a long-haired monster hunter…

You assume the role of said hirsute beast-baiter, one Geralt of Rivia, as introduced in an opening movie that is actually longer than a number of games. As for the narrative, well, Geralt has lost his memory so there isn't really a coherent back-story other than that introduced via various snippets as the game progresses, with virtually every other person claiming to be your best friend.
