The new sci-fi univers of Universe of War will also be available cross-platform, so you can play from your PC or your 360 depending on your mood. We've had a hands-on look at Universe of War: Earth Assault this month - find out what you have to look forward to in our preview now! ![]() Universe at War Earth Assault preview for the PC So what makes Universe at War stand out? Well, other than the obvious pedigree of its developers, one of the things that we’re most excited about is the cross-platform multiplayer. Thanks to Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live service, gamers on Vista or XP will be able to play games with their consoleowning brethren over the magic of t’interweb. While it might cost £40 a year if you don’t already have a Live subscription through your 360, Universe at War is the first RTS to allow for cross-platform multiplayer, and this is something the developers have been quick to boast about. But while original IP is all well and good, we were initially a little bit worried about how this one was going to turn out. We’ve all played sci-fi RTSs that promise the world and never deliver, and we’ve all got our tongues tied trying to pronounce alien names like "x’asdc’’xllxl’", so who’s to say this is going to be any different? After going hands-on with the game, and playing many sessions of multiplayer, we’re pleased to report that it really is shaping up nicely.
