UFO Trilogy review for the PC
UFO Trilogy brings together on one disc the series of UFO games, dating back to 2003's UFO Aftermath and including this year's Extraterrestrials. We think that the earliest game here is still the best, albeit in a disappointing collection - it's clear that the series didn't get better as it progressed. We've got a detailed look at UFO Trilogy, with shots of the games involved, so you can make your own mind up about the strategy/action game.

UFO Trilogy review for the PC
They came from outer space. We
think we should send them back
On this one, innocent looking
disc is a collection of sub-par turnbased-
cum-real-time strategy games,
that form the UFO series. With the
oldest (and by far, the best) game
coming from 2003, and the newest one
being released just a few months ago
in February, this is a hotchpotch
collection that varies greatly in quality.
So let's start with the good. UFO
Aftermath, the oldest game in the
collection is also by far the greatest
game in the series so far. This isn't to
say that it's comparatively very good,
but it's certainly better than the other
rubbish here. The action is divided into
two stages: a tactical and strategic one,
with the former being small scale
combat between your troops and a
few enemies on the planet's surface,
and the latter taking place in outer
space. Whizzing the 3D model of the
world around to pass the time, every
now and then a message box will pop
up to tell you a mission is available on
the planet, and it's up to you to accept
the mission, before carrying out the
objectives in the strangely turn-based
but not surroundings.
