The new expansion will come in multiple glossy flavours…
Blizzard has announced that StarCraft II: Heart of the Stawm will be released on Tuesday, March 12th worldwide.
The follow-up to Wings of Liberty stars Kerrigan as she attempts to utilise her Zerg minions to take out a dictator dubbed, Arcturus Mengsk. Yep, that name means absolutely nothing to us either, but we’re still excited to take the Zerg faction for a spin in this expansion. New units include the Terran Hellbat, Zerg Swarm Hots and Protoss Tempests as well as a host of balance updates and tweaks developed since the previous StarCraft 2 game,Wings of Liberty, was released.
As per usual with Blizzard releases there will be three different flavours of the retailer and digital releases; Regular, Collector’s, and Digital Deluxe Edition.
The Digital Deluxe edition includes a bunch of Battle.net portraits and decals, a Baneling pet for use in World of Warcraft, Blade Wings and Banner Sigil for use in Diablo III, and finally the Torrasque skin, which offers a new look for your zerg Ultralisks in the Heart of the Swarm.
What really has taken our fancy though is the Collector’s Edition which not only includes all of the aforementioned in-game items, but also the following:
- Behind-the-Scenes DVD and Blu-ray: Immerse yourself in the StarCraft universe with developer commentary, interviews with voice actors, and an in-depth historical retrospective on StarCraft’s eSports legacy narrated by key members of the community.
- Collector’s Edition Soundtrack CD: Enhance your Heart of the Swarm musical experience with this collection of more than a dozen tracks from the game.
- Heart of the Swarm Hardcover Art Book: This 144-page tome features never-before-seen art from the expansion, including early concept sketches and meticulous 3D renderings.
- Zerg Rush Mousepad: This Collector’s Edition mousepad depicts the Terran Dominion holding out desperately under the onslaught of the Swarm.
Unfortunately domestic prices for each edition are still being hammered out, but seeing as the Collector’s Edition of Diablo III wasn’t too demanding of gaming wallets we can’t imagine the Heart of the Swarm variety being too expensive.
