EA and Maxis have today announced how exactly the beta testing phase will pan out for SimCity. The city building sim will be playable for a select few from January 25th, but the kicker is they’ll only be able to play the game’s opening hour multiple times.
It’s worth noting that we have no idea what happens during this opening hour, but with SimCity’s release only a couple of months away we’re guessing the purpose of this test is more to network stress and other aspects associated with the game’s online-all-the-time multiplayer structure.
“It is always an exciting moment to share a game that is still in development with its biggest fans prior to launch,” said Lucy Bradshaw, senior VP and GM of EA’s Maxis Label.
“This beta will help the team improve the live service aspects of SimCity to ensure a smooth and user-friendly experience at launch. I want to thank everyone for signing up – we are excited to share one of our most beloved franchises with our fans.”
No problem Lucy, we’re all chomping at the bit to play SimCity! To register to be part of this beta head to www.simcity.com/beta. You’ll have to get a shifty on though, as registration closes on January 21st!
SimCity will be released exclusively on PC this March.
