Games rarely dazzle but as soon as you see the dramatic and atmospheric opening you'll immediately fall in love with an experience which is not only different but also brilliant. You'll be in control of three characters a thief, the warrior and a wizard. Each of the games three characters have different abilities which you can switch between at your leisure. There's the mysterious thief equipped with a bow and arrow, the womanising wizard with the ability to create inanimate objects and the brutish warrior with his sword and shield.

Platform goodness.
Gameplay follows the usual platform archetypes where you'll have to navigate ledges, solve simple puzzles and slay skeletons. The controls are a natural fit for the PC with the mouse providing clinical controls for when you need to draw items for the wizard using your cursor and for the thief's bow and arrow. It's also handy with the warriors shield but doesn't fit so well with his sword based melee combat.

You have the choice of switching to whatever character you want throughout the games short but rewarding campaign. It gets tricky at times but the generous helping of checkpoints ensures that you never have to retread too many steps.

Wizards can move and create boxes.
Trine also has a drop-in cooperative mode that let's three people play through the campaign at once. Although fun as a multiplayer experience, we had a much better time playing on our own. It may be our anti-social side shining through but when having three players all doing their own thing, the environments and puzzle solutions get too hectic. Some of the puzzles can be a lot easier with more than one player but the experience seems diluted.

Trine
Golden.
Overall Trine is bristling with personality and the games graphics constantly reward your progression with picturesque environments and rewarding pay-offs .Your characters level up as you continue through the campaign and unlock skills like the thief's ability to drop kick and the wizards floating platforms.

Trine
Storybook presentation.
It's hard not to recommend Trine and there's no reason why you won't have a lot of fun with it.
