Developer sees “huge potential” in Steam and PC market.
Platinum Games is keen to develop and self-publish games for PC, using Kickstarter to fund them.
The studio’s executive director Atsushi Inaba explain that the high cost and high risk of console development forced Platinum to seek backing from third-party publishers.
“Console game development budgets are really big so we need publishing partners to create those games,” said Inaba.
“I was thinking – with our own money – about creating a PC title for Steam. It would give us the possibility to become a publisher, which is very attractive to me.”
Inaba went on to suggest that there’s huge potential in the PC market and that the developer would like to release a title on Valve’s digital platform Steam.
“If you think about the console market in Japan, and compare it to the world, it’s not that big. So I view the PC as an area with huge potential. It would be great if we could do a Kickstarter and gather enough money for a game to be released on Steam.”
Platinum Games is currently developing Konami’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Wii U exclusives The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2.
