Forge a new boardwalk empire.
What’s the story?
It’s only natural that after Haemimont Games showed the strategy masses how fun it is to be a dictator, that they’d move onto another group of criminals without any morals, but lots of power, namely Gangsters during the 1920s. Omerta features gameplay which combines tactical strategy and resource management, with players tasked with controlling a realistic rendition of Atlantic city with all its landmarks intact.
How will it work?
Basically the game will be split into two different game modules, the first will focus on a 2D perspective of the map divided into 20 districts which can be owned and fought over, whereas the second is more RTS-orientated with players taking control of four-man teams as they attempt to beat down rival gangs. To compliment the regular shooting action, there are also support characters who can aid your illegal activity by bribing policeman, sending a crate of booze to a rival gang before you attack and other interesting perks. Each region will have a myriad of different locations where your gang can start speakeasies, gambling dens, nightclubs, form protection rackets and generally terrorise the local population. From the look of the screenshots and early footage Haemimont are going for a slightly more serious tone than their previous game Tropico 4, but we welcome that.
Anything else to declare?
Multiplayer will also be a major consideration with players able to take their squads online for competitive and co-operative matches. There’s still a lot of info to be revealed about Omerta, but we’re excited that the Bulgarian boys are trying something new after the brilliant Tropico 4. Colour us intrigued.
