Valve have announced that their digital distribution service Steam will be offline for three hours on Thursday February 4th.
"Beginning at 6pm Pacific time Thursday February 4th, we will be performing software maintenance on some Steam servers, we expect the resulting downtime to last three hours at most, putting the end of the window at 9pm Pacific time." Said an official message on Steam's news channel, which will affect UK players between 10am - 1pm.
"Some Steam services will be offline during this time. Affected services will include the Steam Community, in-game matchmaking or lobbies, downloading games from Steam content servers, and making purchases from the Steam store."
This maintenance does appear routine but that doesn't mean it isn't in preparation for new Steam related services which are as of yet unannounced. Valve have said they'll provide more information on the scheduled maintenance shortly and that games which aren't reliant on Steam matchmaking will still remain online and playable.
For Valve's sake we have our fingers crossed that all goes as planned because three hours without Left 4 Dead 2 is just too long.
