Something for the Weekend

Some light reading to keep you tied over until Monday. This week features Monkey Island, Children in Need and Modern Warfare 2

Written by Andy Griffiths, 13 November 2009

We've got a new feature for you and hopefully it will keep you entertained this wet weekend. What follows are some of the personal highlights of the last seven days, what we'll be playing over the weekend and how you can donate money to a worthy cause thanks to gaming.

Secret scenes of Monkey Island:

New and previously unreleased information regarding the original Monkey Island was uncovered this week. During the design stage of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, Lucas Arts' modern day designers got a sneak peak into what made one of gamings most cherished classics tick. One designer, Adam Bormann, was particularly excited to get his hands on the original code and he has written a blog based on what he saw.

Adam talks at length about cut dialogue, puzzle system and editing notes written by Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer. Obviously this is a must read for any fans of the series and it offers a real insight into their comedic talent. This isn't just for Gilbert and Schafer fanboys.

Citizen Game marathon for Children in Need:

Games and charity don't usually work together, but the creative blokes at Citizen Game are having a sponsored event to raise some money for Children in Need. It will take place next Friday and we wish them the best of luck.

For every £100 donated the CG crew will play for an hour, so let's make them suffer a little bit and force them to play for twenty hours straight! At time of writing the amount of donations is currently at £215, which is only 10% of their £2000 target. We can all do much better than that and donate whatever you can to a worthwhile cause.

We're short of £20 after donating and there's no reason why you can't be too! Just follow the link on the right.

Modern Warfare 2:

We have an inclination that all of you will be playing a lot of MW2 this weekend. Lord knows we will on PC and 360. If you fancy a game with us head over to 360voice.com, join the GamerZines group and we'll see you on the battlefield. Alternatively if you're a PC fan we also have a Steam group for you, predictably titled GamerZines.

We published our PC review of Modern Warfare 2 yesterday and we were very impressed despite one problem, lack of dedicated servers. Hopefully we can stay away from all the hackers that may or may not be around on PC servers, but apparently somebody out there has already made an aimbot. We hope that Infinity Ward's admins will soon wield their ban hammer.

As always you can find all today's featured links on the right and if you have any comments feel free to pop them in the suggestions box below.
