The Witcher was a great title when it was released in 2007, featuring a cracking RPG story which centred around the stories of polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. But since then developers CD Projeckt have been quiet regarding a sequel not announcing anything official, until this morning when we visited Youtube.
In a five minute long video with Marcin Inwinski, CD Projekt's CEO, we get to see the innards of their polish offices and an insightful look into The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings.
They have implemented a new engine and it looks impressive, even at this early stage. Combat seems greatly improved on the original, featuring interactive environments which react realistically to foes being thrown around.
One of the stand out moments from the demo for us was the inclusion of a fire breathing dragon which soared over an unfortunate settlement, wreaking havoc on the people below. You'll also get to see a new day/night cycle with an improved lighting system and the return of the bone crushing finishing moves.
There seems to be many improvements in the sequel and even though CD Projekt have yet to confirm it's existence, the video confirms that development is alive and well on the project.
The internal video would have been sent to prospective publishers, showing them a little about the forthcoming game and the developers themselves.
Although it could be a very sneaky but effective marketing strategy to build up some excitement for Witcher 2 and by golly it worked!
