The release of the Return to Ostagar DLC has finally come, at least for PC and Xbox 360 players. The PlayStation 3 version is still "imminent".
Downloading the content is hardly seamless, as we had to buy the points and then return to the game several times before it finally showed up. With Return to Ostagar downloaded, we hit Resume to go and play it, only to discover that because we had completed the game, it wasn't possible to play.
The obvious answer is to go back to a previous save and then load the game, and when we went to do this we discovered that the game had automatically created a save point after completion specifically to allow you to play premium DLC. The content takes play chronologically before the end of the game apparently, which conveniently means that your party are all alive and available, in case your ending dispatched them.

It was only at this point that we discovered that the game save had removed and apparently destroyed our weapons, ensuring our swift death in the Prologue. A swift Google search revealed that people have been experiencing this rather odd feature in Dragon Age before. Starting the content again, we found our missing sword and shield, and are fairly confident that our armour is intact as it is showing on the screen and we're not taking enormous damage, even though the armour is shown as greyed out in our Inventory screen.
We'd probably recommend that you've upgraded to the latest game patch before downloading as it ensures that you restart the game after downloading premium content. It's all a bit of a faff, but hasn't put us off. We'll be back tomorrow with a full Return to Ostagar review.
In the meantime, Return to Ostagar is out now if you want it, costing £3.10.
