Speaking to Gamerzines, F1 2010's Paul Jeal has explained why Codemasters' take on motorsport's most extravagant discipline won't feature Safety Cars.
"The Pace Car is something that we looked at and we'd very much like to do it, but in terms of what it gave the experience versus the elements we had to do such as live the life and the paddock stuff we didn't think we could do it justice for this game," revealed the racer's senior producer.
"On top of that, we knew that the FIA were changing the car model and there are slight licensing issues. In a nutshell all of that meant that safety cars were put on the wish list for the next game."

"It introduces a lot of gameplay problems as well like if you overtake someone, shunt them or go off track etc. There are quite a few challenges to get right, it wouldn't be fair to fade to black and disqualify players. You need to look at and understand those issues to get it right."
Safety Cars are a common occurrence in American oval disciplines such as Nascar and Indycar but in Formula One they are rare enough to not compromise Codemasters' commitment to an authentic experience.
From what we played at the launch event, the ambition of this title is wisely invested in other areas such as car development, driver rivalries, tyre degradation and even media interaction. If the studio based in Birmingham can get all that right, many fans won't care that an option to follow a much slower car for minutes on end isn't included.
Perhaps most significantly the team behind F1 2010 are already considering features for their next simulation, which hints that Codemasters are heavily committed to Formula One for years to come.
