GamerZines: Is Kane & Lynch 2 about righting the wrongs of the original or taking the series in a new direction?

Karsten Lund: A little of both, we're still a brutal crime shooter, but people trying the game usually note that this feels like a whole new experience. We've been trying to solidify the shooter experience while still maintaining the Kane and Lynch core concept.

GZ: The original game was harshly received by the gaming press, despite having some great ideas. Why do you think this was?

KL: I think the first game did a lot of things right in terms of the universe, storytelling and characters. When you try new ground, you take risks, and sometimes get a beating for it. That said, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men sold a lot of copies all things considered.

GZ: What was the thought process behind making Lynch the main player character rather than Kane?

KL: Just look at him! We knew we needed to play as him at some point. He's unique in the gaming world, and the way he deals with situations really give some cool gameplay moments.

GZ: Lynch is a deplorable human being, is there a danger of making him too evil, so that ultimately players don't care what happens to him?

He's got something to lose this time, and you don't want to mess with that or take it away.

GZ: How have the Fragile Alliance modes been improved for the sequel?

KL: They of course benefit from improved mechanics, but also some new modes like undercover cop, and cops and robbers offer even more unique multiplayer experiences. Just wait till you try player vs. player human shield!

GZ: Will this game be pretty much the same experience on both consoles and PC?

KL: We've been trying to achieve the same level of intensity on all platforms to give all player the same experience.

GZ: How does Kane & Lynch 2 dial up the intensity and gritty atmosphere of the original?

KL: The new style and in-your-face game mechanics really give you a more intense shooter experience than ever before - the feel of the dynamic camera, post filters and relentless action all at a solid 60 fps.

GZ: IO Interactive has a great history of open-ended gunplay with the Hitman series. Will there be more freedom when dispatching enemies in Kane & Lynch 2?

KL: Every encounter can be solved in different ways and can be replayed from a different angle. Actually we rarely see encounters dealt with in the same way when people play through the campaign.
