Art Director for Diablo 3, Chris Lichtner has responded to criticisms that Blizzards hell inspired RPG looks "cartoony" or "not gothic enough." He told us:

The Mistress of Pain."I think what we've shown so far is obviously just a snippet of the game and when people see the whole game, they will very much like what they see. They will realise we are definitely shooting for a moody and dark game."

Diablo 2 is still popular today and it's no surprise that the most hardcore fans aren't entirely sure about the new look. It's the first time Diablo has moved from sprites to a 3D graphics based format and looks much more modern as a result.

Goats never learn."We are fans of the previous games, so we want to make sure that it's a game that fits nicely into the Diablo universe. I really don't think that's going to be an issue." Explained Mr Lichtner who wants fans to trust the new direction Blizzard is taking the series.
The release date for Diablo 3 still hasn't been announced and there's still at least one more character class to announce in the near future. Diablo has always been a series where the main campaign is gigantic and it wouldn't surprise us if Blizzard had a lot more up there sleeve for next year.
We'll be running more snippets from the interview tomorrow with the full transcript appearing in PCGZine34 which is released on Thursday. Make sure you don't miss it.
