Electronic Arts attempts to prevent piracy and persuade gamers to buy its games brand new, rather than delve into the second-hand market, continue with the launch Battlefield Bad Company 2.
Following on from the success of Mass Effect 2's The Cerberus Network, which launched with an unlock code that gave gamers exclusive access to a range of free content, Bad Company 2 will also feature a similar system.

"We want people to insert the code they get when they buy the game to get access to DLC content. It's connected to your personal account, more or less, and what we want to do is give you something extra, added value, for that. In the future you will get more content, for free, if you have this VIP code."
Like Mass Effect 2, if you don't have the code you'll have to pay for the VIP code, which EA hopes may offset some of the losses that it'll undoubtedly occur from illegal downloads and used-sales.
We guess it's safe to say that every major game from EA with a heavy online component is now going to have such a feature.
