This afternoon word has emerged on several game forums and social networks social networks that Steam’s official forums have been breached by an unknown hacking contingent.
Pictures harvested from around the Net seem to suggest that the attack lead to a notice appearing at the top of every page on the forums advertising malware distributed by a website ominously named Fkn0wned.com.
In response to this alleged attack the Steam forums were subsequently taking offline for maintenance and Valve has yet to comment on whether an attack occurred or not.
There’s been no information on whether any account details or passwords have been compromised, but it is worth noting that account details for Steam’s client and its forums are entirely separate.
We’ve gotten in-touch with the Washington-based developer and we’ll let you know when they deliver an official statement on what exactly has been going on.
