Valve has announced that Left 4 Dead 2 will receive new DLC after the release of Portal 2.
Rather than follow the same process of the game’s previous add-on campaigns, Cold Stream is being principally developed by accomplished modder Matthew Lourdele and will be bundled with Crash Course, Death Toll and Blood Harvest from the original Left 4 Dead.
"The Sacrifice and the Passing were story heavy, so we want to see what the other end of the spectrum looks like. For this DLC we start with wanting to experiment by releasing a map pack that wasn’t about story. It would just be new campaigns for Left 4 Dead 2," Valve explained on the series’ official blog.
Interestingly Valve will add the option to play Cold Stream via Left 4 Dead 2′s main menu in the coming weeks, enabling PC and Mac owners to test it for errors and the like before it is released proper after Portal 2.
"As we receive feedback and test data we will also share some data we collect on player experience and show how we put that data to use."
"While the beta will only be available for PC and Mac users, we appreciate feedback and ideas from the entire community. This is an experiment for us, so please let us know what you think and what you would like to see in the DLC – just remember the constraints," the L4D Team added.
Even though we’re clamouring to know what the future holds for Coach, Nick, Rochelle and Ellis, many fans will be happy to see Valve offer more close support to their modding community and judging from Mr Lourdele’s last campaign, 2 Evil Eyes, Cold Stream should prove very entertaining.
