The head of EA Games has publicly spoken about the failings of DICE’s radical FPS turned platformer Mirror’s Edge, admitting the final product "fell short" in several key areas.
"First-person parkour across buildings is fun, but to be blunt, Mirror’s Edge’s’ execution fell short," revealed Frank Gibeau in an interview with Develop.
"There were issues with the learning curve, the difficulty, the narrative, and then there was no multiplayer either.
"The key learning from us was that if you’re going to be bold with that kind of concept, you need to take it as far as it can go in development."
Mr Gibeau later added that EA has learned from the mistakes that restricted Mirror’s Edge being the commercial success the publisher had hoped for, and since then they’ve tried to ensure their games are polished and have enough depth to yield long term play.
"But one thing I will say is that we won’t give up on those IPs. A new idea obviously has a lot of risk attached to it, but if you get it all right it can be huge," he added.
This sort of talk from such a prominent figure within EA may reignite fan’s hopes that a sequel to Mirror’s Edge is in the pipeline.
We have our fingers crossed that gamers haven’t heard the last of Faith and her gravity defying adventures.
