DS2 Isaac Errand Boy

Published on December 7th, 2010

During an exclusive interview with GamerZines, ′s executive producer Steve Papoutsis has outlined how the lead character’s role has evolved from the original game.

"One thing we wanted to address in the sequel was the feeling of Isaac being an errand boy, someone who simply took directions and blindly did what he was told," explained the senior figure from Visceral Games.

"The biggest impact this change has on the game really comes out when Isaac speaks, he is not passively following orders instead he is actively seeking for answers or taking matters into his own hands. I don’t want to go too much more into it as it could wind up in Spoiler Town, and that’s a place I’d like to avoid."

Nobody likes Spoiler Town.

Isaac was noticeably quiet in the original , never questioning or complaining about the multitude of orders being piped through his suit during the lengthy campaign.

It seems as though that will all change in Dead Space 2, placing Isaac as a character with emotions, thoughts, feelings and for the first time a voice, rather than an empty vessel for gamers to project themselves onto when playing.

That can only be a good thing, as it allows Visceral Games to craft a much better campaign with a tangible plot and real character progression.

Dead Space 2 will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on January 28th.
