Richard Ham from Splash Damage has explained that snipers aren’t accommodated for in Brink, in order to ensure other people on servers are having a "good time".
In an interview with GameArena, Brink’s creative director explained why the Operative class shouldn’t be confused with other shooters’ sniper or spy archetypes.
"Brink effectively does not do a very good job of supporting that type of gameplay," revealed Ham.
"So if those type of players want to just sit on the Grassy Knoll all game long getting one hit kills they’re going to find themselves just a little bit frustrated with Brink, but that’s so we can make sure everyone else has a good time, so seven out of eight people have a great experience instead of just one out of eight."
As much as we love sniping from afar, we relish the fact that Splash Damage’s forthcoming shooter isn’t plagued by patient gamers picking others off with impunity. Brink still allows oodles of weapon customisation with the ability to add powerful scopes to its numerous guns, but the map design and the nature of the constantly changing match objectives, means that camping the same spot is rarely the best way to ensure your team’s success.
Brink will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in Europe on May 20th.
