DICE has confirmed new details about the upcoming team-based shooter Battlefield 3, via Twitter.
As expected the third entry in the acclaimed series will feature on consoles as well as PCs, but mouse and keyboard fans need not panic. Lead designer David Goldfarb confirmed that the team is "putting special effort into the PC version" and that it’s already shaping up to be "extraordinary."
Seeing as it has been over five years since Battlefield 2 was released, there is a fair amount of anticipation regarding the third instalment and Goldfarb’s statement confirms that DICE aren’t looking to disappoint longtime fans.
Another member of the team also had his own revelation to share regarding DICE’s franchise, with Johann Andersson confirming that Battlefield 3 won’t run on PCs still using Windows XP.
"Frostbite 2 is primarily developed for DX11. XP & DX9 is _not_ supported, 64-bit OS is recommended," advised the developer. "Lots of time to upgrade if you haven’t!"
Well, there isn’t too much time really as EA’s CEO John Riccitiello has already hinted that Battlefield 3 is slated for release during the latter months of the year.
Here’s hoping the cat is let out of the bag soon.
