EA has confirmed at GDC that Battlefield Play4Free will have an open beta before launch.
On April 4th server doors will be flung wide open for every player to get involved on the refreshed FPS which is based on Battlefield 2. Before that time invites will go out to followers on Twitter, Facebook and registered players of other games in the team-shooter series.
The official launch date is still to be determined, but it is standard practice for these sorts of games to go through a lengthy beta process in order to guage shop prices and combat balances before the rest of the public gets involved.
Battlefield Play4Free is EA’s answer to the growing free-to-play gaming market, with revenue collected via in-game micro-transactions for perks, armor and weaponry.
