Magicka Gets Olympic DLC for Free

Published on August 9th, 2012

Sorry did we say Olympic? We meant to say, ahem, “wizarding competition”.

Magicka Gets Olympic DLC for FreeNever one to shy away from real-world events or trademark lawyers, Paradox Interactive has announced that the next big Olympic-themed DLC pack for will be released for free.

Magicka Gets Olympic DLC for Free“Paradox Interactive have good news and bad news. The good news is that an all-new DLC pack, entitled Magicka WOOT, has been released , adding lots of new maps, items, and spells to the Magicka pantheon. The bad news is that the guy in charge of collecting money won’t leave the TV because apparently there’s a major sport event on, so Paradox has no choice but to let everybody have the new DLC completely free of charge. Upon reflection, maybe that’s only bad news for Paradox,” stated a typically jovial press release from the PC games publisher.

Magicka Gets Olympic DLC for FreeThe pack includes 4 new PvP maps, 3 Challenge maps, 10 new sporting goods items (see we told you it was to do with that sensibly-sized sport event going on in London at the moment), and new “Athletic Techniques” including the controversial Performance Enchantment and what we like to call the ‘Wizard Wave’.

Magicka: WOOT is the latest in a long line of DLC packs for the isometric co-op experience which allows gamers to combine different spells to produce new attacks and it will be delivered automatically to every version of the game via Steam’s ever-reliable patching process.

We reviewed Magicka way back in the glory days of 2011, and we were blown over by its fantastic spell system and surprisingly comedic setting. If you’ve yet to check it out, do yourself a favour and pick it up - yell ‘em GamerZines sent ya!
