343 Industies extend support for Halo 2 multiplayer until June.
Remember last month when we brought you news that the server side Halo 2 multiplayer matchmatching support would be switched off by Microsoft on February 15th? Well, it appears the sequel has earned a reprieve care of with 343 Industries looking into new means to save the service.
“Halo 2 PC support extended through June 2013 while we investigate further support options. Now go get those achievements,” stated David Ellis, designer at 343 Industries, via Twitter.
Now this could be some kind of corporate mercy towards all those people who have yet to unlock the multiplayer achievements for Halo 2 PC, or it could be a signal that this month’s rumour about Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3 heading to Steam later this year could indeed be accurate.
We asked Microsoft if they had any official comment to these rumours and we were sent back the following boilerplate response:
“Microsoft does not comment on rumours or speculation. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform, but we don’t have anything further to share at this time.”
“Our platform” easy there ‘Big M’, don’t make us mention Games For Windows Live again!
Anyway whatever the case it seems as though Halo 2 PC fans are getting a last minute reprieve and for that we’d like to extend our thanks to 343 Industries and Microsoft. Guess what multiplayer game we’re playing during our lunch break? It’s all about the ‘chievos.
